When you exit from Exit A at the Laojie Station it will take you into an underground area where you have the choice of taking the stairs to street level or risking getting lost in a sea of shops. My suggestion is to take the risk and on the way, ask the waffle shop and get yourself a choco waffle for they are sickeningly good.
Dongmen is a monster of a place, and after 4 years of trekking through its dark alleys and back street dodgy malls. I know and am willing to accept the fact that I still am not a Yoda on Dongmen (unlike other areas of Shenzhen).
Amongst its streets you will fin an array of goods from DVD (Not just the “Sexy” type) to pool cue shops, and copy sports wear stores.
Dongmen is named after the “East Gate” which was the name given to this section of Louhu back in its hay day, this was due to its proximity to Hong Kong. It comprises of one main street called “LaoJie” or Old Street, then hundreds of other streets and alleys that run off it. Dongmen’s most international claim to fame is that it boasts the FIRST McDonald’s in Mainland China.
It is my suggestion that anyone who plans to go shopping in Shenzhen does not only visit Louhu Commercial Centre but also visit Dongmen.
