AustCham Shanghai Donates RMB200,000 to Disabled Students: A Community Outreach Update

On Thursday, 4 February, Kate Pollitt and Lily Sun from AustCham Shanghai attended a donation ceremony at Sunshine Home, organised by the Shanghai Municipal Welfare Foundation for Disabled (SMWFD).

At the ceremony AustCham Shanghai awarded scholarships to disabled students and students from disabled families. The awards ceremony included a moving finger language performance by special needs students and a guided tour of the home. The Sunshine Home fosters a positive attitude amongst students and uses the making of handcrafts as a method to keep students mentally active and increase hand-eye coordination. The students proudly gave their handmade crafts to Kate and Lily as thanks for AustCham Shanghai’s donations.

The 200,000 RMB contribution by AustCham Shanghai will ensure that the disabled students will complete their studies and that patients will receive better treatment and rehabilitation opportunities.
