Sailing Movie Nite at Gulf Charters Thailand
Gulf Charters Thailand is hosting Sailing Movie Night each month at the Sailors Bar at Ocean Marina. Join the scene and screen some great sailing education and entertainment films. This social event has been going strong since the beginning and thank you all for attending. Come one and all and discover a nice way to spend an evening out in the comfort of the Sailors Bar at Ocean Marina hanging out with sailors, family and friends. Because of the regatta event, the only workable time slot this month was a Monday night. Hopefully, you will be able to attend.
April 26, 2010, 18:30 to 22:00
Sailors Bar @ Ocean Marina
This month’s movies are:
1.) Big Boat Training Videos: 3 professionally made training videos covering 3 critical roles aboard a racing yacht: Headsail trimmer, Mainsail trimmer and Mast man. This is your chance to assemble your crew and get some helpful racing pointers in preparation for the upcoming Top of the Gulf Regatta. See you there! (45min.)
2.) Ross Kemp On Pirates: Part 3: the 3rd in our 3-part documentary series covering the realities of piracy on the high seas today. Follow Mr. Ross as he dives into the world of modern piracy and tracks down both sides of the story, interviewing Navy and other marine law enforcement personnel as well as several crews of real pirate ships. Focusing on Somalia and S.E.Asia pirate hotspots, it’s a must see for anyone planning to do any long range cruising on a sailing yacht, especially if you plan to sail in Somalia. (45min.)
3.) White Squall: The 1996 film is based on the fate of the brigantine Albatross, which sank on 2 May 1961, allegedly because of a white squall. The film relates the ill-fated summer school sailing trip led by Dr. Christopher B. Sheldon (Jeff Bridges), whom the boys call “Skipper.” In the film, four people aboard the ship perished whereas in reality six people died in the incident. A lively movie and a good reminder of the absolute responsibility assigned to the captain of a commercial sailing vessel. It is also a good reminder to always watch the weather! It’s a great sailing film. (1hr.29min.)
The Sailors Bar will be open and there will be food available from the restaurant menu.
We hope you can participate and make our popular Movie Nite a regular part of your involvement with the local sailing scene. All will be welcome, including family, friends and neighbors.
