AustCham Shanghai Event Reminder: Breakfast Address by the Hon. John Brumby, Premier of Victoria

Breakfast Address by the Hon. John Brumby, Premier of Victoria – Victoria Leading the Way: a diverse 21st century economy

AustCham Shanghai is proud to welcome the Hon. John Brumby, MP, Premier of Victoria to deliver a briefing to the Australian community in Shanghai.

During and in the immediate aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis, Victoria’s economy has created new jobs faster than any other Australian State. Premier John Brumby will discuss the reasons why Victoria is leading the non-resource States as Australia’s economic engine room and the challenges and uncertainties for the future.

Guest Speaker:

The Honourable John Brumby MP, Premier of Victoria

John Brumby was appointed Premier of Victoria on 30 July 2007.

Prior to that, he was the senior economic Minister in the Bracks Government holding the offices of Treasurer, Minister for Regional and Rural Development and Minister for Innovation.

As Treasurer, he was responsible for the financial management of Victoria’s $34 billion Budget sector, which represents over 13% of the State economy. A leader in economic and regulation reform in the Bracks Government, he has worked hard to ensure Victoria is the leading State to live, work and invest.

In February 2002, Mr Brumby was appointed as Victoria’s first Minister for Innovation. Mr Brumby actively promotes innovative, creative and knowledge-intensive industries such as biotechnology, environmental technologies and advanced manufacturing. A key part of this exciting vision is the development of the $207 million Australian Synchrotron at Monash University’s Clayton campus, which is set to revolutionise scientific R&D in Australia. More recently, Mr. Brumby has actively lobbied for a National Innovation Agenda – a coordinated national approach to boosting Australia’s innovation system, productivity and economic growth prospects.
