Due to an event at the Shenzhen Museum we have had to change the date for this tour. It is now scheduled for Saturday June 12th.

Shenzhen is a marvel of planning and engineering. This tour will highlight the key players and events that have made the city what is is today and what it is fast becoming tomorrow. Our tour begins with an homage to Comrade Deng Xiaoping in front of Shenzhen’s charming Litchi Park. Deng is a close as Shenzhen gets to a “patron saint”. Although there is debate on whether or not Deng actually said it, his perceived catchphrase, “To get rich is glorious”, unleashed a wave of personal entrepreneurship that continues to drive Shenzhen and indeed China’s economy today. A massive billboard It is dedicated to Deng’s role as a great planner and contributor to the development of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. If the weather permits we will stroll through the park to enjoy watching Shenzhen’s urbanites relax with Tai Chi, dance, musical performances and games of all kinds before tucking into a delcious lunch at the nearby famed Cantonese Restaurant, Sheng Ji.
Following lunch we will go to Diwang Building or Shun Hing Square, a 384m (1,260 ft) tall skyscraper. It is the 5th tallest building in China, and the 9th tallest in the world. The term “Shenzhen Speed was coined because of the remarkable pace of four floors being erected every nine days. We will go to the Meridian View Centre observation deck for a birds eye view.

The tour concludes with a visit to Shenzhen Museum, a comprehensive multifunctional museum with a fascinating collection, of cultural relics. We have arramged for an English speaking guide to point out the museum highlights. Shenzhen might be a city with a mere 30 odd years of history, there is a great deal more to the story. The museum traces the chronology of eight centuries of record back to the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279 AD). Ancient literature housed in the museum is testimony to the fact that the spme of the ealiest inhabitants are descended from the Huang community, which dates back to the Spring and Autumn period (770 – 476 BC). Lifelike bronze statues around the museum recreate the life of the residents prior to 1980. Fascinating dioramas vividly illustrate ancestral temples, tombs and life in ancient Hakka villages as well as 20th century life.

Tour includes:
Private English speaking expert docent led tour of Shenzhen Museum,
