FEE granted eight schools international green title
Eight title schools were choosen as Eco-Schools by Jan Eriksen, president of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The eight schools mainly the OCT Primary School, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, Cuiyuan Middle School, Nanyou Primary School, Lixiang Middle School, Zuefu Primary School, Zhuyan Priimary School, and Meiyuan Primary School.
The schools were presented green flags at the Evergreen Resort. This is the first time chinese schools have claimed the titles. Huang Xunin, OCT Primary School Headmaster says that the green flag symbolizes encouragement, a reminder to us that we have to work hard to protect our environment.
FEE which was initiated in 1994, has involved 32,156 schools in 47 countries, 9,898 of which have been granted the title in it’s Eco-School Program. FEE’s participatory and holistic approach combined with learning, is an ideal way to improve school environments and local communities. The same time it influences the lives of young people and their families.
Four schools in the Nanshan District were choosen by the FEE as anf experimental zone for public education, and Shenzhen leads the Chinese mainland in environmental education since 1996. Vice directore Song Xiaozhi of the Ministry of Environmental Protection says that ducation is vital in improving people’s awareness in protecting the environment and building a environmentally friendly society.
