Theme park denies monetary compensation
Owner of the OCT East theme park denied reports that they will be paying the victim’s family as compensation. Six people were killed in an amusement ride crash last Tuesday reports said that each victim’s family would receive 620,000 yuan (US$90,776.)
Vice manager of OCT East, Zheng Hongxia, said the compensation would be announced by the government when it is finalized. As for now the company is still talking with the victims’ families about compensation and no agreement had yet been reached. Earlier reports said the company would compensate each family of the six victims with 620,000 yuan, but the families says the compensation wasn’t enough.
“No one told us anything about the accident. How did my sister die that day?” said one man, whose sister was killed in the crash while his brother-in-law was seriously injured. As of now the victim’s families are staying at hotels in Shenzhen awaiting investigation results, some families have already spoken of their frustration of being kept in the dark for so long.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated and Chinese-language media have reported the black box of the Space Journey ride has been found and currently being investigated.
The OCT East theme park still remains closed as of yesterday. And no news on when the park will be opened.
