Increasing heat wave brings out the snakes
Hot weather brings out increasing number of snakes, therefore doubling snakebite incidents according to Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
About 8 to 10 people a day have been brought to the hospital to be treated for snakebites this month, said Zeng Zhongyi, director of the hospital’s snakebite treatment department. Most incidents happening in parks at night. Most of the patients were bitten by poisonous snakes such as bamboo snakes and kraits, thankfully most bites were deemed non life threatening.
Residents are advised to stay clear of shrubs and trees, especially at night, or when walking in the evening it’s advised to wear long pants and cotton sock to offer some added protection from bites. Residents are also encourage to bring long sticks for protection too.
