Toyota to raise workers salaries
Toyota is planning to raise the wages of its workers in China, stating that raising wages will bring some benefits, such as helping create middle class consumers to go out and buy cars.
Toyota and its rival Honda motors Corp. Have been experienced strikes from suppliers therefore bringing production to a halt in car assembly plants in China. Workers complain of low wages and poor conditions inspiring strikes and labor unrest at other foreign-operated factories in the country. Since China is popular with international companies to locate their production because of low labor cost, its also one of the fastest growing automotive market overtaking the US market last year.
Demand for higher wages and other costs are forcing companies to reconsider their China operations, some are even transfering factories further inland or to other developing countries. Some western companies already went back home.
