Workers denied hot weather allowance
According to the regulations issued by the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, employers are required to pay or provide high temperature allowance to all of their employees that are working outdoors.
Many of these workers are unaware of the mandatory hot weather allowance in the current sizzling heat their experiencing. A monthly allowance of 100 yuan is paid to those working indoors or where working environment is below 33 degrees. 150 yuan is given to those working outdoors or in above 33 degrees working environment. However a lot of workers on construction sites are not paid the allowance. They were just offered cool drinks to prevent heatstroke.
Social Security Bureau said heatstroke is defined as an occupational injury, meaning workers will still be paid while they are recovering. However the bureau haven’t received any compensation applications from workers who suffered heatstrokes this year.
