Eight Shenzhen offcials are now seated in eight senior government posts, this posts all bureau chiefs includeing the heads of Luohu and Nanshan district, head of Pingshan New Zone, Audit and Statistics Bureau and the Taiwan affairs office. All of this officials were duly elected thru open competion which started last June.

This eight officials will be subjected to a final evaluation before taking office. With an average age of 50 the eight officials were chosen from 16 candidates, each candidates delivered speeches and answered questions in front of a municipal committe before they were elected. From the eight elected two of the candidates were holders of master’s degree while two more had doctorate degrees.

The open election was a part of an experiment aimed to introduce elections for high ranking officials, since most of the officials were appointed or elected with only one candidate standing. Unlike the past more officials were invited to casts votes making it more democratic. No matter if it was a success of failure the election was a test for the government officials. The govenrment will continue to explore innovative and efficient ways in choosing their officials.
