Century old school to be made into a museum
A century old primary school in Bao’an District will be renovated to preserve its cultural relics. the school for girls is the oldest school found in Shenzhen.
Renovations is expected to start by the end of the year, then after its renovation the 130 year old school for girls will be opened to the public as a museum. The Christian school which was founded during Emperor Guangxu’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. The two story school had 5 classrooms with a total of 160 students in attendance. Known for its high quality education, the school attracted students from different parts of China.
The school was open until 1985, then teachings were transferred to Dalang Primary School. Then the school was utilized as a manufacturing plant and dormitory for its workers. Legislators called for immediate protection if the school to protect it from further damage. Stating the school was a great value into the research of Shenzhen’s history which dates back to around 7,000 years.
