Brooking wants next manager to be an Englishman
Trevor Brooking, Director of the Football Association wants to have an Englishman as England’s next manager.
Two of England’s last three managers were foreigners, namely Sven-Goran Eriksson of Sweden and recent coach, Fabio Capello of Italy.
Former England midfielder Brooking was quoted as saying, “I think longer term, after Fabio, we’d like to go English.”
The FA wants a young English coach to join Capello’s back room team as it attempts to groom a successor.
According to Brooking, they want to create a spell where they appoint English coaches and that Fabio can help them enormously bridge that gap and help their transition.
“We’ve got a short-term priority of the qualifying games but over the next couple of years the National Football Centre will hopefully be built, and that’s going to be the hub site for the future development of English coaches.” He said further.
