Serena’s Foot Injury Puts Her in Doubt for US Open
Serena Williams, the 13-time Grand Slam champion, cut her right foot on broken glass at a restaurant shortly after winning her fourth Wimbledon title. The WTA tour said her injury could compromise her participation in the US Open which starts on August 30.
The Washington Kastles, William’s World Team Tennis team, said she needed stitches on her injured foot.
“Hey guys I’m doing better,” Williams tweeted. “Thanks for all the love.” She also said that she can’t wait to go back on the courts and do what she does best.
Prior to the US Open, Williams said, she withdrew from the events in Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal.
Tennis fans are in anticipation of her return in the US Open where she lost to Kim Clijsters in the semi-finals last year when she threw invectives at a line judge. She was eventually fined a record of 175,000 US dollars with the amount to be reduced to 82,500 US dollars if she remains on good behavior for two seasons.
