Contemporay artist to open first solo museum exhibit
On August 6 to 13, 2010 contemporary artist Liao Zhenwu will have his first solo museum exhibition. 40 works will be presented to the public for the first time. The exhibition will serve as an elegy to the people who lost their lives in the Sichuan earthquake that happened May 12, 2008.
The exhibit will includes paintings, sculptures and works on paper, serving as a poetical memorial to contemplate the impact of the catastrophe. Major works in the exhibition will include The Pain of Three Oceans (2008 -2010) and the Exodus (2008-2010), this oversize murals measures 5x12m each, conveys the gravity of the destruction in an overwhelming scale. Also in the exhibit is the artist first foray into sculptures the Monument (2008-2010). Liao is an accomplished water colorist with masterfully painted studies capture the energy of the rescue efforts and scope of the tragic loss on the survivors. Trained as a water colorist, Liao moved to Beijing in 2005 to study oil painting at the Central Academy of Fine Art.
