New policy will expand medical insurance
Under a draft plan given to the city government, children medical insurance will expanded to pay for their outpatient services in city hospitals and community centers.
According to the new policy, children 14 and below can choose any community health center or hospital which they could visit and pay for general treatment. Children from 14 to 18 years old will be charged as insured adults. Medical insurance can only be used at community health centers for outpatient treatment, but since children requires more treatments they are allowed to see doctors in hospitals.
Basic medical insurance system is basically government runned, and they cover general health insurance, inpatient health, migrant worker health and elderly health insurance. Around 650,000 children are covered by the medical insurance, while 4 million children and adults have inpatient medical insurance.
