All Metro lines in Shenzhen will have luggage scanners by the end of the year in preparation for the Universiade games.

A trial scanner have been installed in Huaqiangbei Station this is to try out the scanners and security checks in view of heavy passenger traffic plus restricted spaces. This luggage scanners are the same scanner that are being installed at Shenzhen Airport. The scanners have the ability to detect certain variety of contraband and illegal substances. 20 guards at Metro Line 1 have already been trained on how to use the scanners, by scanning large baggage in the scanners and smaller bags passes to random checks by the guards themselves. Passengers refusing to subject their belonging to this luggage checks will not be allowed to board the trains.

  1. This is a great security addition. however, i hope they will only scan large bags, if every bag a d breifcase and backpack is going to be scaned, i think less people will use the metro and revert back to busses.
