City still experiencing a price increase in commodities
Foul weather and flooding took a toll in wholesale prices of rice and pork. Food price rosed with an average of 7.8 percent since July the biggest increase seen according to the statistics authority. Price of pork increase everyday and retail price of lean pork and pork ribs had an increase of 2 yuan per kilogram.
The increase driven because of the recent nationwide floods that killed all livestock and destroyed crops that were used as feeds. With this combined factors plus reduced production increased the costing of rice planting leading to a higher price. Seafood is the only thing that didn’t experience any increase in their prices due to off season fishing. With prices decreased to almost 40 yuan per kilogram. Despite the red tide warnings in Shenzhen, fishing authority assured residents that seafood sold in markets are safe for consumption.
