Medical specialists attended a program to promote global access to pain relief. The forum called for universal access to controlled pain medication for cancer patients who were forced to go without adequate pain treatment to ease their suffering. If the Global Access to Pain Relief Initiative is achieved, it would help reverse the cancer epidemic by 2020,

Regardless of where they live, cancer patients deserve access to effective pain medication. The pain of cancer could be safely and effectively treated with analgesics. However there is an estimated 5 billion people living in countries with limited or have no access to controlled medicines at all.

Million of cancer patients suffer from pain, this affects their daily lives and also shorten their life expectancy. Doctors know how to help them but only a limited number of medication can be given to them, making it unfair to these patients.
