Travelers to get new smart cards
Hong Kong and Shenzhen will soon issue smart cards embedded with a chip that will function as a Octopus Card and Transcard. Making it convenient to travelers who frequently cross borders. The card will be released by the end of October.
Increasing number of people that cross the border led to the decision to integrate the two cards, during this year city session a proposal was presented that strengthen financial cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong to make a smart card that is usable in both cities. The new card holders must open accounts with Shenzhen Tong and Octopus to be able to use the card. The card will contain no personal information so there is no infringement of privacy and exchange rate problem.
