Vendors still adjusting to new policy
Even with the new policy being implemented, some convenience stores, street vendors and kiosks are still selling mobile SIM cards without asking any personal information from purchasers. MIIT requires all mobile phone users to give their names and identity card numbers when buying SIM cards.
Under the new policy these measure was introduced to protect users privacy and curb spam text messaging. Also undere the policy stores and vendors who sell SIM cards are suppose to suspend their sales until they are trained to register customers. Vendors argued that the SIM cards where bought even before the new policy was implemented so they didn’t gather the purchaser personal information. But according to experts they should have registered their customers regardless wheter it was bought a few days before the policy implementation.
The system could help reduce span text messaaging, since the average user recieves a dozen spam messages, while some receive messages involving fraud.
