AFL Finals Live in China
Exciting news for Australian sport fans! ICS, as part of Shanghai Media Group, will be televising a live Australian Football League (AFL) game into China every week during the 2010 finals series and the 2011 premiership season. A pre-match program will be screened before each match, giving viewers information about AFL.
This agreement between the league and the Shanghai Media Group also includes an exhibition match between Melbourne Demons and the Brisbane Lions to be played in Shanghai on October 17.
“We are very excited to showcase Australian football to one of the world’s biggest markets as we continue to develop the code on the international stage,” AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said.
The League has also launched a development program in Shanghai schools to teach young children the basics of the game and recently launched a Mandarin Language website, www.51afl.com.au.
Australian football contributes $3.4 billion annually to the Australian economy, with seven million people attending AFL matches each year. There are more than 733,000 registered participants across Australia and 53,000 players in 38 senior leagues around the world.
Tickets are now on sale in the AustCham Shanghai office for the exhibition match in October this year.
