Police handing out information on new traffic scheme
Guangzhou police officers are giving out leaflets and brochures about the new traffic control scheme trial happening on Sept. 11 to 14. Officers were handing out the flyers in front of MOI department store to publicize a second trial of the traffic control. The traffic restrictions was designed for the Asian Games in Guangzhou in November.
In this period Guangzhou will be allowing private cars with odd and even license plates to drive on alternative days. Offenders caught will be fined 200 yuan and three points deducted in their license. Vehicles caught parking in special lanes for the Asian games will be fined 150 yuan.
Getting lesson from the previous trial run last July, some restrictions were lifted in expressway links. Drivers coming from outside Guangzhou who don’t know the restrictions will not be affected. The first trial was widely criticized by drivers not from Guangzhou because they were not aware of the restrictions being made. Statistics showed that during the four day trial in July 70 percent of the caught offenders were drivers outside Guangzhou.
