New power plant helped exceed Shenzhen power capacity to a new level
With the second phase of the first reactor Shenzhen Ling’ao Nuclear power plant began operation yesterday, China power generation capacity exceeded 900 million kilowatts. The director for the National Development and reform commission Zhang Ping said China have entered a new stage of development for the China power industry.
Zhang said it took China 38 years to raise power generation capacity, from 100 million kilowatts in 1987, far from the 1.85 million kilowatts when China only generating in 1949. In 2005 China electric generation capacity was at 500 million kilowatts. China also has the largest hydro power capacity in the range 200 million kilowatts and 22 million kilowatts of wind power capacity.
China plans to raise its nuclear power capacity to 60 million kilowatts by the year 2020, when its six nuclear power plants will be able to produce 10 million kilowatts of capacity.
