Shenzhen to celebrate car free day
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow Shenzhen police will be closing eight streets to mark the World Car Free Day to advocate the use of public transportation. Buses, taxis and bicycles are the only means of transportation that will be allowed on Dongmen road, Huaqiangbei road, Changxing road, Haijing road 2, Chuangye road 1, Dengzheng road, Huaxia road, and Jianshe road .
Shenzhen has held a Car Free Day every year since 2006, and Shenzhen transport commission will launch a citywide car free promotion from September 22 to 26 to promote the city bus and metro network. They will then gather opinions from the public with regards on how to improve the city’s public transport services.
The commission released a plan to add 33 more bus routes that will cover 575 kilometers and adjust the previously added 27 routes plus 459 more buses will be added to the fleet. The new routes are to link Shenzhen North Railway Station and other Metro lines that are under construction and set to open by the end of the year.
Public suggestions on the plans are welcomed by the commission, and can be viewed on their website www.sztb.gov.cn the deadline for submitting is September 30, 2010.
