Lanterns to adorn streets and buildings in preparation for the holidays
To mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the city started to decorate its streets, buildings and parks. Some sectrions in the city’s trunk roads, like Shennan Thoroughfare and Shahe Road West were decorated with 1,400 lanterns as planned by the Shenzhen Light Environment Management.
Testing and hanging of the lanterns will take a week, the center also plans to hang 3,000 flags along Binghe Road while offices and buildings are encouraged to hang lanterns and flags to create a festive mood. Street decorations is one of the measures the city is making to liven up the city for the holidays. The urban management bureau will place 700,000 potted flowers at bus stops, train terminals and check points. The bureau is also hoping that Shenzhen residents will place potted plants or flowers on their balconies and front doors to celebrate the holidays.
From September 30 to October 8, light facilities will be turned on and laser performances will be featured at the square of Citizens’ Center. The surrounding street of the Citizen Center will be decorated with 6,000 LED lights which will create a illusion of starry nights.
Workers will also be hanging red lanterns to create a festive atmosphere for the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.
