The Fourth Traditional Ethnic Minority Sports Meet of Guangdong opened in Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province.

Two thousand athletes from 36 nationalities will compete in twelve events, including shuttlecock, archery, peg-top, dragon boat racing, swing, martial arts and more.  A hundred or so Shenzhen minority athletes take part in eleven of the twelve events. the Shenzhen delegation is the largest in terms of participation of athletes in the city’s history.

The Traditional Ethnic Minority Sports Meet held every four years is a big event of all the nationalities of Guangdong Province and a sports gala to show national unity, national celebration and national exchange. The competition of the athletes of all the nationalities is helpful in developing the ethnic physical culture and at the same time promote national friendship. The event is also a good chance to showcase national spirits and to learn from each other.

The sports meet hosted by Guangdong Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee and Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau and undertaken by Shaoguan Municipal Government, was attended by Vice President of the Executive Committee and Director General of the Universiade Executive Office, Liang Daoxing. Deputy Director of the Executive Office, Liu Pingsheng and leaders of the Executive Office Universiade Village Administration Department also graced the opening ceremony.
