Bicycle rental service launched during World Car Free Day
A public bicycle rental service in Shekou was launched yesterday during the World Car-Free Day. Residents with prepaid card bearing ID information can rent one of the 350 bicycles in 16 stands, with bike routes that covers 16 office buildings and communities.
The launch ceremony was done at the Garden City Center in Shekou with Executive Vice Mayor Lu Ruifeng, he hopes that the bike service will relieve traffic jams, reduce transportation costs, and promote low carbon living. He also said if the bike service is successful, it will be extended across the city.
Residents can rent a bicycle by using bike cards with their ID cards and deposit 100 yuan at any bicycle operators. For people without hukou the deposit will be 300 yuan. Bicycles are free for the first hour and a 0ne yuan charge is implemented for every additional hour the user accumulates. In case the user loses the bicycle a 750 charge is applied.
Other major cities are planning to give the project a trial in their respective communities.
