Traffic conditions worsen during National Day celebration
The morning rush hour was longer than usual last Tuesday, creating a severe traffic jam on the city’s main trunk roads leading to the three day Mid-Autumn Festival holidays. To make matters worse the afternoon rush hour began coming in leading to more congestion in the main roads.
Traffic conditions have deteriorated in the recent days, and the police attributed the bad traffic conditions to the reconstruction of Beihuan Road and the Metro construction across the city. Plus the sharp increase in the number of cars. Further heavy congestion is expected during the seven day National Day holidays, which is a few days after the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Residents are advised to take public transportation whenever possible to lessen the traffic and police will update drivers with real time reports of traffic conditions via radio, LED road display, and mobile phone messages. Driver involved in minor accidents must move their cars on the roadside after taking pictures of the accident scene with their mobile phone, so it won’t create more traffic and congestion.
