24 hour call center set up for Shenzhen senior citizens
The elderly can now access a 24 hour call center with the press of a mobile phone, in case they seek help in any emergency cases. They can also call the center if they need any spiritual advices, holiday wishes, help in their home or medical rehabilitation.
A hotline number will be open and 2,000 mobile phones will be given away to senior citizens over 80 and living alone, free of charge. The hotline is one initiative being done for the Senior Citizens month, that also includes lectures, kite flying and talent shows. With the Double Ninth Festival coming up, this is the day were people traditionally pay respects to the elderly in the 22nd Elders’ Festival. Activities will be held during the Senior Citizen Month to help enrich senior citizens lives and to encourage more people to care more for the elderly.
Statistics show that there are about 420,000 senior citizens living in Shenzhen by the end of this year, 145,000 of this seniors are holders of Shenzhen hukou. This month city officials are planning to visit 60 seniors over the age of 100.
