Design flaws found in recently built subway line
Urban and rural construction commission in Guangzhou recently confirmed doubts about the safety of the city’s northern subway extension. A commission was assigned to investigate the subway passage in question and it was deemed safe to use.
The investigation was made due tho comments by an engineer on the center of engineering quality and safety monitoring said that cover ups were made during the quality and safety inspection. Issues on the use of concrete have no impact on the quality of the project and it would definitely meet the safety requirements. Still comments about the newly constructed extension raised worries of the subway projects, that it was not designed to handle pressure and the construction was given a go signal in spite of the substandard work quality.
The commission didn’t deny discovering a flaw in the project, and requested a design evaluation and still the passage meets the structural safety requirements even if there were disputes on the test made by two companies finding the passage failing to meet design specs.
The extension line is due to be finished this month, and operational by November in preparation for the up coming Asian Games.
