Wal-Mart to expand their Direct Farming Program
Retail giant Wal-Mart plans to expand their Direct Farm Program by recruiting 2 million farmers and reducing waste products by 15 percent by 2015, this is part of Wal-Mart’s plan of Globalizing sustainable agriculture strategy.
Wal-Mart in Shenzhen Direct farm produce will be upgraded from green to certified fully organic inn 2015. Being the world largest retailer, Wal-Mart also leads the trend in grocery business, its sustainable farming strategy concentrates on locally grown food sourced from small and medium farms. Wal-Mart’s efforts will increase farmers income, teach more effective ways of using pesticides, fertilizer and water. Therefore supplying fresher produce to its customers.
Last September, Wal-Mart had already set up 55 direct farm bases in provinces and cities including a vegetable farm in Shenzhen, a pork and vegetable farm in Guangdong Province.
