Shenzhen Annual Charity Event 2010 Recap

Last Saturday night, The Seng Girls Home located in Qinghai province was the recipient an unprecedented level of generosity from the Shenzhen expatriate community. Lynn Velez who recently received the Shenzhen Standard’s “Person of the Year” award, organized what many have described as “Party of the Year”.

The event was attended by approximately 450 people with about RMB600,000 being raised. One third was raised from the silent and live auctions, one third came from ticket sales and another third came from sponsorship of the girls. Velez stated, “I would really like to thank everyone that attended and participated by donating their time and money to such a worth charity”.

As the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words. Fortunately Shenzhen Standard’s photographer was available to catch 150 images of the event. Please enjoy the images.

  1. Yes it was a great sucess sorry you missed it. Did you have your baby?

  2. The bidding for the Cheers Bar voucher was frantic, they must have been after your ribs.

  3. Glad we were able to donate from Cheers Bar and wish I was able to attend the event itself! Judging from what I’ve heard it was a complete success.

  4. What an amazing night it was! I’m honored to be listed as Shenzhen Standard’s person of the year. I have to say that so many people deserve this title as well. It took many individuals volunteering their time to make last Saturday’s night the success it was. For one it was the 450 people who attended the event because 1/2 of their ticket price went directly to the Seng Girl’s Home. Also the volunteer based auction committee, Angela, Hedy, Liz, Michelle, Shierley and our auctioneers Tim and Bob and MC David… all these people did what they did for free and because they believe in the cause at hand. Of course all our donors and sponsors and the many other people that helped including the 20+ volunteers that were present the night of the event. I also think Andrew and Julie need to be recognized because they are the ones that have founded Captivating International and made it the organization that it is today, one I’m so proud to be associated with. Thank you everyone for all you have done, what an amazing event! How do we top it for next year?
