Smoking and other behavior banned in public buses and subways
A newly drafted government regulation will prohibit smoking and other negative behavior in buses and subway trains in all Chinese cities. The regulation will ban passengers from drinking alcoholic beverages, carrying pets, begging, and performances of commercial nature in buses and subways.
The State council made the draft public to get public opinion, the drafted regulation also outlined the rules of constructing, operation and safety of any urban public transport. The main responsibility is for developing urban public transport and urged the government to increase spending and prioritize public transport development in urbanized areas.
The government will still hold the right to set fares for the public transport, but will still hold public hearings before finalizing fare prices. Prices will be fixed to encourage more people to take the public transport as their means of transport. The developed public transport system also improve barrier free facilities to consider the needs of the elderly and disabled.
