Measures taken to control air pollution in preparation for the Asian Games
To improve air quality for the coming Asian Games, the city of Guangdong will be restricting production of all polluting factories, reduce vehicle traffic and discourage outdoor barbecues in all 11 cities in the province.
According to these measures made by Guangdong Provincial Environmental Protection Department, the several productions at heavy polluting factories will be halted, tankers and oil storage facilities will have their operations suspended if they won’t treat unused oil in and environmental friendly way.
Guangzhou, Dongguan and Foshan will be restricting cars from running, ports will be monitored for emissions and vehicles without green environmental tags are not allowed in the three cities. Outdoor barbecues and hot street food is not allowed and restaurants are asked to use gas, not heavy oil or coals. Roads are not spared and are required to be watered at least six times a day in some cities. In the event of very hot weather which aggravates air pollution the city can shut down more factories to prevent the air being polluted.
Guangzhou will also implement a odd-even license plate rule to control vehicles from coming into the city to prevent the vehicles from adding pollutants in the air.
