Snow Dragon research vessel to visit Shenzhen
Icebreaker Xuelong better known as Snow Dragon will make its first visit to Shenzhen on the 8th of November, before sailing on China’s 27th Antarctic expedition. The Snow Dragon have a length of 167 meters, a beam of 22.6 meters. The research vessel will leave for Shenzhen from Shanghai on November 5.
The oceanic bureau launched a campaign promoting oceanic and polar knowledge among the public, especially youngsters. The city government is arranging 1,000 students to visit the ship. About 1,000 residents will be allowed to board the ships on Nov. 9-10, and the city government will be providing free bus services on visiting days. Two exhibitions about polar exhibitions will be held at the Civic Center and the Shenzhen International Garden and Flower Expo Park. The exhibition at the Civic Center will features China scientific expeditions and an overview of the icebreaker.
Residents will get a closer look penguins, arctic foxes and seals, at the exhibition in the Flower Expo Park. Two lectures will also be given by polar research experts during the ship’s stay. The 193-member expedition will be supplying and maintaining equipment in the three China research stations in the South Pole.
