Teenage Dragon Slayer

Teenage Dragon SlayerThe mighty Shenzhen Dragons ventured to Shekou for an epic clash against the long in the tooth Shekou Pythons. The assorted groupies that witnessed the clash bore witness to a return to glory for the Pythons. The first of a series of clashes to decide once and for all who rules Pearl River Delta rugby.

The Dragons were well represented on the field with, “Most Valuable Dragon Alive”, their fearless leader Darragh, Jonny, Dan, Connor and a few other drunks they found at the pub, where they agreed to meet before coming to Shekou.

The Pythons feeling confident, chose to play a girl, two fourteen year old lads and a half dozen old men whose average hair color was grey.

The game started with a Shekou try, then a Dragon try and with three tries to four at half time, it was looking to be a great game. Injuries had already taken a toll on both the Dragons and the Pythons with no subs available for the second half.

The Shekou selectors were vindicated in the second half as Vivian continually pressured Dragon defense and fourteen year old future Kiwi All Black Ashley Tuia, slicing through the Dragons at will. The Dragon defenses were run so ragged that the aging French and Australasians, when they weren’t bickering, ran in tries as well. Ashley Tuia, singlehandedly ran in more tries than the combined team of Dragons earning him the title of Ashley “Dragon Slayer” Tuia.

In post match drinks the generous Pythons agreed to buy a really really large trophy for the winner of the tournament. Some cynical Dragons players suggested that the Pythons only agreed to buy a really really large trophy as they won the first game so convincingly, however the Pythons contend they need a really really large trophy to hold lots of beer to dip their pate smeared baguettes into.

The Dragons have offered to be more hospitable than the Pythons who put on absolutely nothing in the way of drinks or food. The next match will see the Pythons travel to the heart of darkness, or as the locals call it Futian, for round two of the epic clash.

  1. The Shekou boys are looking forward to firming up their grip on the cup. We need something to hold the beer that we will dip our pate filled baguettes into. You’ll probably need to roll out your big guns for the next game.

  2. Can’t wait till the next match when you’ll actually face a (somewhat) sober squad. You don’t know what you’re in for…or you do, which is why I’m sure you’ll opt out the day before…
