Volunteers to help promote English speaking program
Since the launch of the campaign in 2004, fourteen representatives have promised to speak English for the behalf of Shenzhen residents on a conference promoting English speaking. A city wide action plan is also implemented at the conference by the organizing committee Speak Shenzhen which was a citywide event aimed to encourage residents to speak English.
The representatives were everyday people, from a customs officer, taxi driver, retired officials to students all vowed to speak English and promote English speaking to their friends. 60 coordinators were present during a meeting made by the organizing committee that were developing a plan of proposals from the program. The program will be designed to build an environment for English speaking.
The program was initially launched to serve the 2011 Universiade which also facilitate making Shenzhen into a international city. Events such as First Shenzhen Expats Chinese Talent Show and 100 English sentences for taxi drivers was also launched to further promote the program.
