Charity Birthday Project took home 2 million yuan cash prize
The 2 million yuan cash prize for a charity funding was won by two teens that submitted their nonprofit project during the Nonprofit Project Competition. 14 year olds Liu Junliang and Xie Songruo students of Shenzhen Experimental School started the Charity Birthday project that raises donations at birthday parties.
The project was awarded as the best 10 Nonprofit Projects by all 16 judges of the competition. The 2 million yuan prize was donated by Shenzhen Charity Association and Vanke Charity Fund which gave one million each for the said competition. The two teens came up with the ideas when they decided to ask friends to donate instead of buying them gifts during their birthdays. They already held six charity events and were able to raise 10,000 yuan and have more than 30 teen members.
The first person that they helped with their project was a girl from a migrant family who has heart disease. She will undergo surgery by the end of November and the Shenzhen Children Hospital also vowed to reduce the surgery cost. The prize money will be also used to finance medical treatment for other children with heart disease in Shenzhen. The Nonprofit Project Competition was launched in August and organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau.
