Shenzhen chosen to pilot City of Public Transport program
Shenzhen is in the process in building a City of Public Transport that can be compared with international cities in ten years. A city of Public Transport features a comprehensive network that is supported by subway or metro lines, bus routes and non motorized transport.
Shenzhen was given the opportunity to pilot the program during a signing ceremony, Wang Rong the city Party Chief is required the transport commission to submit a draft that have a detailed implementation plan and device policies to prioritize public transport. Construction of major public transportation infrastructure will be then pushed forward and will be supported be the ministry of transportation by supplying intelligent transport and public service system and providing financial support.
To achieve this goal, Shenzhen must build a comprehensive transport framework that will connect metro lines and express buses, since buses and metro lines transport almost 70 percent of commuters. Commuters can then transfer to either public transport within 5 minutes and total carbon emission will be cut down by 20 percent. transfer stations will be situated in heavy congested areas and will be renovated to accommodate more commuters.
