Shenzhen to host its first Fringe Festival
Fringe festivals are held anywhere and never refuses anyone with stories to tell. A tradition held for more than 60 years. Shenzhen will be hosting its first Fringe festival in December, supported by the organizers of the Fringe festival Macao.
Zhu Decai and Huang Liguang local designers decided to have the Fringe festival, ever since they met the Macao organizers during the Shenzhen cultural fair last May. They saw local art troupes were performing in the fair after having talks to them they agreed to have the first Fringe festival in Shenzhen. From December 4 to 12 the festival will turn a 1.5 kilometer street in the Shenzhen Bay area into a fair of artists and performers. Fringe festivals are different and exciting since the performers are local artists and city residents. 30 troupes will present around 100 performances from drama, music and dance performances plus art exhibitions.
The festival will also feature parades, performances and community events with the theme on environmental protection. Parks, shopping malls, and plazas will become stages for contemporary performers. The Fringe organizers will also project video images of China best dancers onto glass walls of the Shenzhen Poly theater. Organizers who handled the Fringe festival in Macao is in charge of the opening parade then is joined by artists, students who are participating in the festival. Costumes and make up artists are on hand to help passers by and onlookers who are interested in dressing up and joining the festival.
