Store owners hampered pavement projects along Shenhui Road
20 pavement projects along Shenhui Road in Longgang District is put on hold, raising doubts that roadworks that are under construction in conjunctions will be finished on time. Shenzhen Metro Line 3 Investment Co. the project contractor, said residents and businesses found along the roads are hampering constructions effort.
Problems arise from unsettled compensation, smaller parking spaces and shortage of access roads were some of the concerns of people residing near Shenhui road. Since its pavements has been expanded, parking spaces in front of stores shrunk, putting fears in owners that it can affect their businesses. The construction plans showed that each side of the road must be 6 meters wide. But some store owners have asked workers to adjust the pavements according to their own requirements, with some even demanding to use concrete instead of bricks to accommodate cars parking. A restaurant owner even asked the workers to raise the height of pavements and to add steps on each end of the pavement.
Contractors found the requests unacceptable putting to a halt to 10 projects that were asking the same requests. Parts of some pavement were demolished by some business owners to allow vehicles to reach their stores. One store owners said hope that the government that the government would consider the interest of store owners since no parking spaces means no business for them.
