Middle School Week Without Walls

Middle School Week Without WallsDuring the week of November 1st, Middle School students headed out across China to explore the Expected Student Learning Results (ESLRs) outside of the usual classroom setting.

Grade 6 students went to Lantau Island where they camped, climbed and kayaked.  Students in grade 6 were working on demonstrating, ‘Personal Management’ and ‘Working Collaboratively.’

Grade 7 students travelled to Long Ji and Yang Shou to pursue adventures in the mud caves, cormorant fishing and cliff climbing. The grade 7 ESLR goals included, ‘Global Citizenship’ and ‘Working Collaboratively.’

Grade 8 students journeyed to Guang Xi where they hiked into remote minority villages, participated in farming and taught in local schools.  Their ESLR learning outcomes included, ‘Global Citizenship’ ‘Communicating Effectively’ and ‘Personal Management’.

Students enjoyed wonderful learning experiences that pushed them beyond their comfort zones and opened their eyes to the different ways of life in other parts of China. SIS Middle School teachers were proud of the way their students looked forward to each activity with open minds and took a positive approach to challenges.
