AustCham presentation: Challenges and Learnings of designing the Spanish Pavilion

AustCham presentation: Challenges and Learnings of designing the Spanish PavilionWith the Spanish Pavilion at EXPO Shanghai 2010, weaving with natural fibres, a handcraft with a “global” tradition used in both east and west, has become a thread connecting Spain and China.

Nevertheless, to use this material in a building needs a special approach and normally involves studies of the environment and surrounding buildings. That of course, was not possible when construction the Spanish Pavilion.

This presentation aims to explain the challenges the architects faced when designing the pavilion and evaluates the final result.

Guest Speaker: Igor Peraza Curiel

Igor moved to Shanghai in 2009 to become the project architect and architect on site for the Spanish Pavilion at EXPO Shanghai 2010. Before he had worked for several projects in Spain and lectured at the European Institute of Design and worked as invited teacher for Master Courses at the Politecnic University Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Now Igor is working at two new projects in China, a garden for the 2011 International Landscape Exhibition in Xian and the Zhang Da Qian Museum in Neijiang (Sichuan).
