Shenzhen water supply increased
The water supply project started in 2006 with a total cost of 500 million yuan. The first phase of the water supply was constructed in 1996 and have been providing 3.2 billion cubic meters of high quality water one third of the total water supply in Shenzhen. work on the second phase will include the renovations of two pumping stations located in the Dongjiang River and Yonghu Lake and an additional 7.68 kilometer of pipeline will be added. The reconstruction of the river intake will further improve the quality of water Shenzhen have been receiving. A monitoring systems will also be installed to prevent any polluted water from entering the reservoir and reaching Shenzhen.
Even though the water supply project is a big help, many cities are still affected with water shortages. Shenzhen is one of the seven cities that is experiencing severe water shortages and the water affairs department is speeding up the construction of reservoirs in Qinglinjing and Gongming. The department is also doing measures to save water resources so they can improve water supply to the seven cities.
