Chinese microbloggers helped in the capture of girl’s murderers
Police was able to catch the murderers of a three year old girl with the help of their microblog. The little girl’s murder was the first one reported publicly solved with the help of Chinese microbloggers.
The police microblog have 25,000 followers or microbloggers, who receives updates. The police posted the girl’s photo on the microblog on November 23, nine days after it was discovered. A 5,000 yuan was then offered to anyone who could provide any information in helping the police identify the little girl’s body. The photo was sent to 10,000 microbloggers and received almost 2,000 comments. The police received information from microbloggers help them identify the little girl and tracked her parents in Jiangxi Province.
One microblogger recognized the girl and helped the police contact the grandfather, who in turn told police of the parents location. The parents did not report the child missing arousing suspicion. The girl’s parent then admitted to the murder of their little girl the dumping her remains in the sea near Xiamen city. Photos of the police arresting the couple with their faces block out on the police microblog still continues to receive comments.
