Biggest grouper a main attraction in local restaurant
The biggest grouper was recently the main attraction at a restaurant in Luohu District and became a delicacy among the restaurants patrons. The caught grouper weigh about 271 kilograms and measured 2.5 meters long and 1.1 meters wide. The grouper was caught in Honghai Bay, Shanwei, and was said to be 92.5 kilograms heavier than a grouper caught by fishermen in Hong Kong in 1997.
Groupers typically have stout body and a large mouth. Their mouth and gills form a powerful sucking system in which they use in catching prey from a distance. Groupers also uses their mouths in digging into sands to form shelters under big rocks. Groupers are also not built for long distance swimming since they can be quite large and grows over a meter and weighs more than a hundred kilogram.
Chen Hanzong, the restaurant owner bought the fish from Shanwei for 50,000 yuan and had the fish shipped to his restaurant. In all his years in the restaurant business he had never seen a fish this big. It took three hours and five chefs to cut up the fish, and they chefs found great honor in preparing such a rare fish. Chen plans not to cook the fish head until December 20 and is saving the skin and fins so it can be made into specimens to display to the public.
