Chinese Character writing in beginners’ class

Chinese Character writing in beginners' classIn elementary Chinese class students learn speaking, listening, reading and writing; four different skills from beginners’ class.

Why do beginners need to learn how to write Chinese characters?  Why do beginners learn Chinese characters instead of pinyin?  Is it important to learn Chinese character in beginners’ level?

In local school students start to learn Chinese characters from the beginning and they read age appropriate books with teachers’ help for character recognition. They also start to learn English letters in their English lesson as their second language. All language learning includes four skills and each skill helps us understand the related culture and deepen knowledge.

You may assume Chinese characters are hard to learn before you start to learn it.  It is hard and so different from other characters, but actually if you learn from the original pictures it makes sense and it would be easier than you thought. I found in elementary Chinese class students like to learn and write characters and make stories according to the meanings even in the kindergarten class. They would like to learn how pictures evolve into Chinese characters.

In beginners’ class we have writing time to practice character writing and sharing different ideas about the characters’ meanings and the shapes. It helps us understand Chinese culture which is a meaningful way to learn about the whole of China.

We do speaking and listening, and we do reading and writing too just like the way Chinese people learn their language.
