Drivers fined for failing to move their vehicles after an accident
107 motorists were involved in minor traffic accidents were fined 500 yuan for failing to move their vehicles and causing traffic jams. The new penalties for minor traffic accidents was put into effect last November 15 and since then traffic jams caused by minor accidents dropped down to 30 percent.
The city have received around 24,000 reports of minor traffic accidents from November 16 up to December 1, and only 107 drivers involved in the accident were fined for causing traffic jams. This mean that from a thousand drivers only four of them failed in moving their vehicles in time thus causing the traffic jams. In these weeks, cars left the accident scene within ten minutes increased to 34 percent compared to before when the new rule took effect, especially during rush hours and on busy streets.
Official statistics reported that the number of traffic jam reports decreased to 26 percent in the first two weeks of November, after the rule was implemented reports dropped down to 47 percent.
