Man arrested for posting information on a website
A man was arrested for online posting of the personal information of 3,000 home owners in an upscale residential development in Futian District. Only identified by his surname Lan, he admitted to posting the personal information at Baidu.com – a Chinese search engine. Lan posted the information to gain virtual money from Baidu. The virtual money is used for purchasing gaming services in the website.
Lan works as a real estate agent for Shenzhen Shihua Real Estate Co. Lan collected all the information at work. Lan needed the Virtual money in order to download software from the internet website. The more information he uploads the more virtual money Baidu would pay him.
The real estate company denounced Lan’s actions saying that they have strict policies in protecting their clients and homeowners information, and if Lan is guilty of his crime they will fire him immediately and recommend that other real estate companies do not hire him. The homeowners committee told the police that homeowners personal information was posted on Baidu.com website in November and listed the names, address and mobile phone numbers of the residents.
The name list was uploaded to the website through it’s free uploading and sharing section which the website doesn’t edit or change.
